For what I have seen so far the Best Picture category is defining little by little but I don’t see “It’s Complicated” as deserving the spot. I got more feelings that “The Lovely Bones” would get the nod in their and a possible surprise one of the best movies of the summer (why not?) Star Trek (maybe just as a catharsis of “The Dark Knight” fiasco of last year).

I don’t know. Let’s see what happens. I think “The Last Station” would get a Best Pic nom.

It was really a wild guess. I can’t bring myself to pick “Avatar” because I don’t think it will hit big, “A Single Man” because it is too bizarre for the usual Academy taste, or “The Lovely Bones” because it does not have good buzz right now.

So, “It’s Complicated” became my true “populist” pick. The Academy doesn’t hate comedies; they nominated “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Juno” in a field of five.

It’s not a bad situation for me with either outcome: if I’m horribly wrong, I can laugh it off much easier than if a big name that I had predicted didn’t get mentioned. And if I’m right, won’t that be one hell of an “I told you so?”

I agree with 95% of your predictions, but “It’s Complicated” for Best Picture? I don’t think so. At the Golden Globes, sure. Not at the Oscars. The Academy doesn’t like comedies.
