I’m glad you saw it! For me, “Up in the Air” is one of the most fascinating movies I’ve ever seen, and it definitely resonated with me a whole lot more than I expected. It has not left my mind for the seven months since I’ve seen it, and I have no problem with that whatsoever.

Excellent review here. I especially appreciate the way you brought philosophy into it because, essentially, that is what this film is about – the study and examination on a man’s life philosophy. I think the way you wrote your review and compared it to your own philosophy about the time you spend regrading movies shows how easy it is to connect with this film.

I can’t wait to see Reitman’s future films. With “Up in the Air” he really reinforced within me a passion for thematic storytelling. A different filmmaker could have told this same story, but if he didn’t emphasize the themes the way Reitman does, it would not have nearly the same lasting impact.

Stunning film, almost paralyzing how deeply it hit me, and I have no idea why. It’s Reitman’s finest work, but he’s never made a film I gave less than a solid “A,” so that’s something to say about his career.

Fantastic review, Marshall. I saw this film today, and can’t wait to delve back into it. Kris Tapley says it plays even deeper into the emotions of characters and the audience second time around. So there’s something to look forward to. I don’t think I overheard a negative comment about the film walking out of it. Good cinematic mouthwash after trudging through “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” earlier.

Only reason why I compared the two is because in both cases Reitman adapted the screenplay (which has a finesse all its own). I haven’t read the books of SMOKING or AIR, but only mentioned them in their capacity for Reitman to adapt.

The stories are indeed very different.

I haven’t really tried to compare it to “Thank You for Smoking” because it would be like comparing apples with barnacles. They are entirely different movies with entirely different purposes.

I enjoyed reading your review, Marshall. It’s not a perfect movie. I had some problems with the motivations of the Alex character.

I know that those people were real people getting fired. I thought it was weird when they came back at the end of the movie. I thought, wait a minute. Is this a talking head documentary now?

Other than that, I enjoyed the movie.

wow, glad you dug it as much as you hoped you would. really good movie, not sure i like it more than Thank You For Smoking, but still fantastic in its own way. good review, man.
