Random Factoid #278

Gringo at “He Shot Cyrus” posed a question of the week – have you ever been to a drive-in movie theater?

The answer for me is no.  I really want to go to one, but there isn’t within hours of Houston.  I’ve tried to go when visiting family in Oklahoma City several times, and it just has never worked out.

It’s kind of sad to see how obsolete the drive-in has become.  I think it would be so much fun to have large city crowds head to them, but some things just can’t sustain the times.  Hopefully, the video store doesn’t become a novelty (as was often discussed on this site last month).

Yes, I guess it’s really a thing of the past. I don’t even know of any place near me that would offer the option. It would be kind of neat, you can bring your own food and sit in your own car but it works only if you have a convertible.

I have! It’s so much fun, there’s one left about 30 minuets away from where I live and it only plays movies that are at the $3 theatre but its worth it! I have the best memories of going there to see movies when I was a kid, my parents would sit in the car and my sister and I would sit on camping chairs outside with the popcorn we popped at home and brought, and usually we stayed for the double feature.

The $3 theatre!?!? Is that what you call a dollar cinema now?

Good grief.

I know right 😦 It was actually just raised recently from $2 to the $3 it is now. I live in the Central Florida area, but my friend goes to college in Birmingham, Alabama and the dollar cinema there is literally $1.

I think the one that I always go to in Oklahoma City is still a dollar…last time I checked.

But all you have to do is blink and they are charging you a quarter more.

The only one I’ve ever been to was one in Auburn, Washington, and it was a cool experience. We smuggled in pizza and drinks and snacks (apparently it’s impossible for me to go to any kind of movie without smuggling in SOMETHING).
